In the profession’s infancy, Moe was instrumental in introducing the mediation process to the staff of Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) Ontario Region. The success of his work at Corrections led to Moe’s being invited to the Slovak Republic. The purpose of his visit was to address members of the Slovakian Corrections and Police Academy on the benefits of the mediation process in that country’s paramilitary type services which are often considered to be high stress occupations. He has been called upon to participate in and address workshops in Canada on the topics of skills and ethics of the mediation profession. He has explored and researched many different approaches to mediation of on the job conflict within the federal public service including Alternative Dispute Resolution and Informal conflict Management System (ICMS). Moe has provided his mediation services for the past 10 years to all levels of staff and management at Corrections Canada. His clientele included management personnel, labour management, guards, clerical and administrative staff in addition to support staff such as prison nurses etc. Prior to joining the Correctional Service of Canada, Moe practiced facilitation within the federal government of Canada. This has given Moe great insight into how various levels of the public service and its agencies function. In his role as facilitator, Moe has facilitated International Visits of Dignitaries for Correctional Service of Canada, Coordinated the Citizens Advisory Committee for CSC and acted as liaison for Members of Parliament and Ministerial Staff on the Daubney Parliamentary Committee studying parole and sentencing practices in Canada. Moe served in various capacities within the government of Canada which helped to hone his facilitation and mediation skills. He served for a time as Special Assistant to the Hon. David Crombie, Minister of Health and Welfare and to the Hon. Erik Nielsen, Minister of Public Works. He also served as Appointment Secretary to the Rt. Hon. Joe Clark, Leader of the Opposition. This federal experience gave him excellent insights into the demands and stresses associated within many fields of public service in Canada. Upon retiring from CSC, Moe established the Moe Royer Group for the purpose of offering his talents, expertise and vast experience in mediation, facilitation and negotiation to all clients in both private enterprise and/or public service. Moe has assembled a team of highly competent and creative associates in the Group to assist him in providing top quality service. In addition to providing the highly professional mediation, facilitation and negotiation services, Moe’s Group offers consulting services to corporations and government agencies who wish to establish policies and practices to minimize conflict in the work place in order to maximize employee productivity. Moe is highly committed to supporting both education and research in the field of mediation in Canada. He is an Associate member of The Mediation Centre of Southeastern Ontario. The Centre provides training in Mediation and Conflict Resolution to candidates who wish to join the profession. Moe coaches, teaches and advises students at the Centre. Moe is also a member of Ontario ADR (Alternative Disputes Resolution) Institute of Canada, Inc. He believes it is important to belong to associations that are committed to maintaining the highest standards of ethical performance within the mediation profession. Moe is very much committed to service in his community. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Kingston and Frontenac County Children’s Aid Society. He has hosted and co-produced a series on Kingston’s cable television station featuring local personalities in the Kingston area. The series is called Profiles Civics. He volunteers his spare time to community causes such as United Way and Salvation Army fund raising. He believes deeply in service to his country and fellow citizen and his respect for all is evident to all upon meeting him. |
